RECONVERSION AST B&S
Hooglede-GitsFrom farmstead to contemporary living space
A former drying shed, a dilapidated bean warehouse and a residence - remnants of a historic farmstead - have been transformed into a modern home. The bean warehouse, located on the plot boundary, has been retained and transformed into a studio. A single-story extension creates an H arrangement that adds spaciousness and functionality to the whole. The south-facing garden, on the street side, has been transformed into a sheltered garden room, while the north courtyard garden, accessed through the barn, offers a more intimate atmosphere with semi-paved areas and denser greenery.
The residential extension is clad in burnt wood, an ancient Japanese technique that makes wood durable. The interior of the home is understated and authentic, with a limited material palette of brick, concrete and wood, providing a timeless feel.
