Zedelgem.....
Along Burgemeester Joseph Lievensstraat in Zedelgem, a small-scale, carefully designed residential development is being built, consisting of two multi-family buildings with a total of 13 apartments. The project focuses on harmonious integration into the existing residential environment, respecting scale, natural light, sightlines, and green spaces, while also creating a semi-public connection to the nearby Schoolplein. The goal is to achieve an integration that strengthens the neighborhood and fosters a pleasant sense of urban cohesion.
Functionally, the project is thoughtfully designed. The underground garage accommodates 16 vehicles and bicycle parking, while a limited number of above-ground parking spaces provide access to the site without encroaching on the green spaces. The paths and paved areas have been kept as minimal and uncluttered as possible, placing the emphasis on the green, walkable outdoor spaces and an open, light atmosphere.
Through the combination of a well-thought-out layout, high-quality outdoor spaces, and contemporary, understated architecture, this project creates a living environment that offers both comfort and quality of life. It is a development that respects the scale and character of the street, harnesses the site’s green potential, and simultaneously brings a contemporary approach to the housing options in Zedelgem.
Project information
The buildings flank a central walking path and plaza that organizes circulation throughout the site. This plaza serves as the heart of the development and also acts as a connecting element for residents and visitors, while the apartment terraces face the green spaces, contributing to light, air, and privacy. The landscaping has been carefully designed with a mix of trees, hedges, shrubs, and low-growing plants, creating a park-like atmosphere that softens the urban density and invites people to linger and socialize.
The architecture of the buildings is contemporary and functional, yet remains small-scale and in harmony with the surrounding buildings. The rhythm of the facades and the use of materials—nuanced masonry and dark gray window frames—create a calm and cohesive appearance. Large windows near the terraces connect the interior and exterior and enhance living comfort. The volume of both buildings follows the guidelines of the BPA-CENTRUM, with clear distances to the lot boundaries and attention to natural light and the privacy of the surrounding homes.
