't GROEN HART - ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

Roeselare

Residential Care on a Green Campus

The project is part of the redevelopment of the former AZ Delta hospital site into a mixed-use residential and care campus in Roeselare. Within this master plan, a small-scale building is planned with a program focused on assisted living for 20 people with disabilities. The site is centrally located between Meensesteenweg and Rode Kruisstraat, within a new park setting that forms the basis for the site’s complete transformation into a sustainable residential area.

Architectural design

Architecturally, the building consists of two interconnected residential volumes, featuring a clear volumetric composition and subtle variations in material use. The architecture draws inspiration from a home-like living model: communal living and care facilities are located on the ground floor, while individual rooms are situated on the upper floors. A fourth floor is added atop the second floor, featuring communal gathering and meeting spaces.

The complex is conceived as a care facility without an institutional character, featuring facades of equal prominence on all sides within the park setting. A timeless brick architecture has been chosen, incorporating sustainable materials such as architectural concrete and aluminum. Facade details such as cloister-style brickwork, recessed entrance areas, and a vibrant base contribute to the building’s legibility within its context.
