VILLA MORORO
KrombekeVacation home/ headquarters & showroom MORORO outdoor objects
In Krombeke, in the middle of a watery agricultural landscape, an old house was replaced by a new vacation home that fully responds to its exceptional context. The plot is surrounded by ponds and meadows and feels like a peninsula in the landscape.
The extreme humidity and the presence of several ponds were not a constraint, but the starting point of the design. Building on piles keeps the water flowing freely under the volume and strengthens the relationship with the landscape. The new building respects the existing implantation, but subtly repositions itself to create better views and a stronger spatial experience.
The result is a long, low forty-meter volume that extends horizontally into the landscape and takes maximum advantage of light, views and reflection on the water.
The living spaces - lounge, kitchen and dining room - are located at the front and open fully to the water. Large expanses of glass and a continuous terrace create a smooth transition between inside and outside. The functions are organized in enfilade, creating perspectives that draw the landscape deep into the home.
The sleeping area is located on the more private side of the volume. Inside, the roof remains visible up to the ridge, which enhances the spaciousness despite the compact building volume of 1,000 m³.
The house is composed of a steel support structure, finished with concrete façade panels and a wooden roof. The sober material palette - concrete, wood and glass - creates a powerful yet calm architecture that blends in with its surroundings.

Site
The project is located in Krombeke, in an agricultural context characterized by meadows and several ponds. The building zone lies like a peninsula among the water. The long driveway reinforces the feeling of arriving in a separate world, where landscape and water play the main role.
Layout
The new home was subtly repositioned to strengthen its relationship with the water. By building on piles, the natural hydrology remains intact and allows the landscape to flow beneath the volume.
The elongated volume faces the open water features and surrounding meadows. The living spaces and terrace are oriented toward the longest sight lines across the plot, maximizing the experience of the landscape from within the home.
Architectural choices
The structure consists of a steel structure with concrete cladding panels and a wooden roof. The concrete panels have a protective finish and provide a robust, timeless look. The wooden roof softens the whole and reinforces the horizontal line.
Glass was glued into the frame in some places to maintain its minimalist character. Detailing is essential: integrated gutters, hidden opening parts and carefully worked out connections create a pure architecture.
The interior follows the same logic. Polished concrete floors, natural stone and lots of wood create a warm, understated atmosphere. Materiality is limited, but precise - keeping the landscape the real eye-catcher.
